James R. Smith

Mr. James R. Smith age 80 of Fayette, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11-A.M. from Fayette First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Franklin Memory Gardens in Russellville. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10-11 A.M. at the church. Survivors include his wife: Nell Smith of Fayette, mother: Johnnie Mae Smith of Arab, AL, son: Jim Smith of Haleyville, step-sons: Stewart Lindsey and David (Gwen) Lindsey both of Fayette, daughters: Tammy (Joe) Moure' of Tyrone, GA, Wendy (Doug) Lewey of Russellville, AL, brothers: Rayburn (Nora) Smith and Glennon (Kathy) Smith both of Arab, AL, Kenneth (Faye) Smith of Russellville, AL, eight grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son: Michael Shawn Smith, father: Ralph Bernice Smith and the mother of his children: Dura Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the Navy serving 23 years, and 18 years with the National Weather Service. He was a member of VFW Post 5406, Gideons International, and Fayette First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and also coaching Little League. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons: Chris, Hunter, Matt and Jessie, and nephews: Clint, John and Clark. The family suggest memorials be made to Gideons International or Fayette First United Methodist Church.
