Vera Roena Fulmer Obituary

Mrs. Vera Roena Fulmer was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A resident of Fayette, Alabama, she passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by those she loved most. Roena was born on November 25, 1943, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Horace Taylor Brown and Ruth Rice Brown.
Roena’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith in God. Saved at a young age, she dedicated her life to serving Him and was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church. She spent many years teaching children’s Sunday School, nurturing young hearts in their faith, and later served in the homebound ministry, offering comfort to those in need. As a deacon’s wife, she stood as a pillar of strength and encouragement in her church community. The words of Philippians 4:13 embody the faith that guided her every step: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
She is preceded in death by her parents, Horace Taylor Brown and Ruth Rice Brown, her brother, Tony Rayburn Brown, and her sister, Patsy Ruth Parker.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Roy Gene Fulmer, her children, Stephen Gene Fulmer (Laura) and Deidra Fulmer Ladnier (William), her brother, Lloyd Brown (Trillie), her sister-in-law, Sandi Brown, and her beloved grandchildren, Gene Fulmer (Evan Ashley), Brooke Robertson (Landon), Jacob Fulmer, Brittney Tankersley (Luke), and Breann Butler (Draven).
Roena was known for her warmth, hospitality, and the love she poured into her home. She found joy in preparing delicious meals for her family, making every gathering special. The Fulmer’s home was always a place of comfort. Holidays and special occasions were especially meaningful, as she and Gene created cherished traditions for their children and grandchildren. Roena will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 17th, 2025 at Nelson Funeral Home, officiated by Mark Brown and Bro. Robert Parrish. Family hour will be from 1:30-2:30 pm. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:00 pm with the funeral to follow at 4:00 pm. There will be no graveside service.
Pallbearers to be Tony Brown, Dwayne Brown, Tim Fulmer, Tom Fulmer, David Fulmer, and Mark Fulmer.
Honorary pallbearers to be Eddie Fulmer, Jeffrey Fulmer, Johnny Fulmer, Robert Fulmer, Joe Fulmer, Warren Burns, Lance Ayres, Allen Burns, Ethan Couch, Dennis McKinley, Jerrod Brown, and Roena's Adult Sunday School class at Southside Baptist Church.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Morningview Estates and the medical staff at Fayette Medical Center for their compassion and care during Roena’s time of need.
Though Roena’s presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, love, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Southside Baptist Church in memory of her.
