Vera Harkness

Mrs. Vera Harkness, age 87 of Fayette, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Fayette Long Term Care.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 12-noon from Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 11-A.M. till 12-noon at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Felix and Erma Redden McCrory,  husband: Charles "Pete" Harkness, and a brother Charles McCrory. 

Survivors include her son: Rick Harkness (Cindy) of Tuscumbia, grandchildren: Ashley Long (Jarod), of Fayette, Graham Harkness (Zeynep) of Florence, great-grandchildren: Allie Long of Fayette, Arya and Olivia Harkness both of Florence, and special friend and caregiver: Debbie West.

Vera Harkness was born in Kosciusko, MS July 11, 1934. She graduated Kosciusko High School in 1953 then attended Business School in Birmingham, AL before moving to Fayette, AL in 1957 where she went to work as the secretary for Contel Telephone Company for 33 years. Vera was also a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Fayette where she served the Lord as the choir director for many years.
