Thomas Dawson Morrison

Thomas Dawson Morrison, 76, of Fayette, AL, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 29, 2024 after a short battle with Leukemia.

Dawson was born on January 8, 1948 to Lawson and Annie Morrison in Tuscaloosa, AL.  Dawson grew up with a twin brother and 4 other siblings. At the age of 17, he accepted a call on his life to preach the word of God which he faithfully did for nearly 60 years. He most recently served at Mountain Home Baptist in Bankston, AL for the last 18 years where he preached up until a few weeks before his passing. 

Dawson was a veteran. He served his country as a Navy chaplain during Vietnam on the USS Kitty Hawk.

In May 1970,  Dawson married Wanda Hogue, the love of his life. He was a loving husband. They would have celebrated 54 years of marriage in May. Dawson and Wanda went on to have 3 wonderful children, Ben, Larry and Deana as well as 7 beautiful grandchildren.

Dawson loved gardening and was very well known in the state of Alabama as an avid Alabama football fan who frequently called in to sports radio talk shows. He was known to many listeners as simply Dawson from Tuscaloosa.

Dawson was preceded in death by his parents Lawson David Morrison and Annie Lee Peavy Morrison, as well as a sister, Priscilla Gilbert.

He is survived by his beloved wife; Wanda Hogue Morrison, two sons; Ben Morrison, and Larry (Catherine) Morrison, and daughter; Deana  (Scott) Sullivan. Other survivors include two sisters; Martha Steger and Patricia Pharmer, two brothers; his twin, Lawson (Carmen) Morrison, and Cliff Morrison, and seven amazing grandchildren; Whitney Morrison, Benjamin Morrison, Haley Sullivan, Sydney Morrison, Alex Sullivan, Emilee Morrison and Ethan Morrison.

Services will be held at Mountain Home Baptist Church in Bankston on Saturday, May 4, 2024. The body will lie in state from 9:30-10:30 am. The service will be at 10:30 followed by the burial there in the church cemetery. Rev. Donnell Brown, Rev. Brandon Morrison, Rev. Larry Morrison, and Ryan Fowler will officiate.

Honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Shelton.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Morrison, Desmond Looney,  Wes Shelton, Noah Findley, Dannon Findley and Mike Goodson.
