Today, we gather in love and remembrance to honor the life of Quilla Morrison Humber, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Born on November 19, 1945, in Vernon, Alabama, and passing peacefully at Hospice of West Alabama on August 19, 2025. Quilla’s 79 years on this earth were marked by grace, devotion, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her.
Quilla’s early life in Vernon shaped the woman we came to admire. She attended Crossville School, graduated from Lamar County High School in 1964, and earned a degree in Cosmetology from Shelton State Community College. Her education was just the beginning of a life filled with purpose and service. Alongside her beloved husband of 58 years, Charles Bailey Humber, they were dedicated members of Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, where her presence was a constant source of warmth and encouragement.
Quilla was a pillar in the communities of Lamar and Fayette counties, known for her unwavering dedication as a Christian wife and mother, and her skilled hands as a beautician. Her love for music was evident in her beautiful voice and exceptional talent at the piano, often filling rooms with songs that soothed and encouraged. She found joy in the simple and profound—gardening, cooking, and creating beauty wherever she went. Her flower beds were a reflection of her spirit: vibrant, nurturing, and full of life.
Her kitchen was a place of comfort and celebration. Quilla’s home-grown vegetables, perfectly fried chicken, and lovingly baked cakes and pies were more than meals—they were traditions, shared with family and friends, seasoned with love and care.
Quilla’s legacy lives on in her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles; her three sons and their wives—Tracy (Kristy) Humber, Scott (Barbara) Humber, and Kenny (Jennifer) Humber; her six grandchildren—Trent Humber, Parker Humber, Christie Graham, Ashley (Tyler) Bigham, Maci Humber, and Dexx Humber; and six great-grandchildren—Rain Nolan, Trace Graham, Henley Graham, Sayge Trimm, Halyn Bigham, and Saydi Jo Bigham. Each of them carries a piece of her heart, her wisdom, and her love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dexter and Reba Butler Morrison, whose values and love she carried forward in her own life.
To know Quilla was to know kindness, creativity, and faith. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the beauty of simplicity, and the strength found in family and community. Though we mourn her passing, we celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind—a legacy that will continue to bloom in the lives of those she touched.
Pallbearers will be: Sayge Trimm, Trent Humber, Parker Humber, Dexx Humber, Rain Nolan, Larry Wayne Humber, Trace Graham, and Tyler Bigham.
