Opal Marie Buford

Ms. Opal Marie Buford, age 82, departed her loving family on September 23, 2025, after a yearlong journey with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Formerly of Fayette, she later moved to Tuscaloosa to live with her daughter when her illness no longer allowed her to be alone. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, just as she wished.

All funeral services will be held Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Davis Chapel FWB Church. The family will receive visitors from 1:00–2:00 p.m., with the service to follow. Bro. Drew Self will officiate. The burial will take place at Davis Chapel FWB Cemetery. Nelson Funeral Home is directing.

Our beloved mother and grandmother was truly the heart of our home and family. She raised six children with the support of friends and family and worked tirelessly to ensure her children always had what they needed. Whether working in the fields, canning food, or in the textile industry, she dedicated her life to providing for her family. Beyond her hard work, she instilled in her children the values of independence and perseverance, teaching them that nothing was impossible.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Alma Spurgeon; her brothers Jerry Spurgeon, Buddy Spurgeon, Douglas Spurgeon, and Early Spurgeon; her sisters Mildred Gann, Clara Mae Dunn, and Barbara Jean Frost; and her beloved sons Allen Bruce Buford, Lonnie Clifton Buford, and Ronnie Lynn Buford.

She is survived by her children: Archie Buford (Kaye), Wanda Curington (Travis), and Mary Shirley (Ziggy). She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Justin Curington (Angie), J.T. Curington (Kayla), Archie "Lee" Buford (Amanda), Regina Marie Buford, Krystal Dill (Joseph), Stacey Vice (Cody), Brittany Bonner (Josh), Tabatha Connell (Matthew), and Anna Kate Wilson; step-grandchildren Brittany Spires, Danny Spires, Austin and Dalton Smith; and a special host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Keyaira Mills, Anna Kate Wilson, Tiffani Davis, Wanda Crowell, John Wilson, Kerry Shirley, ACG Hospice (Christina Phillips), Brennon Dalton, Dr. Sunil Chandra, Joanna Bundrum (Curewell Medical Staff) and Estelle Wright along with the entire Awesome Towing Family.

Active pallbearers will be Justin Curington, J.T. Curington, Archie "Lee" Buford, Brennon Dalton, Ricky Frost, and Jerome Gann.

Her strength, love, and devotion will be remembered by all who knew her.
