Nellie Jean Canup

Mrs. Nellie Jean Canup, age 81 of Fayette, passed away April 7, 2025 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 11-A.M. from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Jon Thomas will officiate.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Kimberly Smith Ingram, Jeff Miller, Patsy Christmas, Kalissa Smith Bormann, Tony Miller, and Kenneth Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Jim Canup, parents: Ledger and Pezzie Smith, brothers: Shirley Smith, Murl Smith and Earl Smith, and nieces: Kay Staples and Pattie Hubbert Williams.

Nellie was a graduate of Fayette County High School and then went to Beauty School to become a hairdresser. She owned and operated Modern Beauty Shop and served her clients until she was in her 70's. She loved to garden and took great pride in her Japanese Maple Trees. Nellie loved cats and bred prize winning Himalayan cats for a number of years.

Honorary pallbearers will be: great nieces and nephews: Mason Ingram, Jeanne Ingram, John Thomas Staples, Martha Staples, Caitlin Miller, David Bormann, Anna Grace Bormann, Stella Smith, Nancy Hodges, Ashley Hogeland, Loyd Leon Christmas III, and Rachel Miller.

Active pallbearers will be: Ken Smith, Jeff Miller, Patsy Christmas, and Tony Miller.
