Mrs. Mary Helen Steiger, age 78 of Fayette, passed away July 23, 2024 in Tuscaloosa.
Mary Helen Steiger was born September 19, 1945, to John and Katie Rigsby. As the sixth of eight children, with brothers surrounding her, she was inherently viewed as 'one of the boys' and was a true tomboy at heart. She married the love of her life, Michael Steiger in 1963 and they had 2 children together: Michael Jr. and Michelle.
Her professional journey consisted of a range of occupations including a sales position at Sears, managing and owning a cleaning service, and delivering auto parts and newspapers, but her most beloved role was being a grandmother.
Mary Helen was blessed with 3 grandchildren- Katie, Sarah and Savannah and was soon to be a great grandmother to a baby girl, Violet, in September.
She cherished the time spent with her grand daughters dearly and expressed that they were some of the best memories of her life.
Family meant everything to her, and she took every opportunity she had to get everyone together.
She enjoyed bowling, gardening, sewing, and writing. There truly wasn’t something she couldn’t do, and she did it all.
She demonstrated unwavering courage and a strong will to live during her long battle with cancer staying optimistic and grateful for each day.
In hard times, Mary Helen would quote Philippians 4:13, which read “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
She had unwavering faith in the Lord, placing her trust in Him amidst struggles and anxiety. She is now basking in the Lords loving arms, completely free from pain and suffering.
