Lynette Newman

Mrs. Lynette Newman, age 101 of Fayette, passed away July 8, 2024 at Fayette Long Term Care.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 2 PM from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens. Bro. Clyde Stevens will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Newman was born May 14, 1923, in the Bluff community of rural Fayette County to Rev. Cleon C. Holliman and Pearl Williams Holliman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie Wilson Newman; and brothers, Theron Holliman (Kathryn) and Thelton Holliman (Vonceal). She is survived by her children, Rayford Wilson Newman (Laurie) of Fayette; Martha Ann Newman LaCroix of Hoover; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Fayette County High School and attended Draughn Business College in Montgomery. She was employed full-time in Fayette from 1945 until her retirement in 1988. She first worked at Vick Implement Company and then the Fayette County Department of Human Resources. She had a 38-year career with DHR, and ultimately served as administrative assistant to the director. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed her dogs, sewing, gardening, traveling around the southeast, trips to the lake, hosting family holiday gatherings, as well as shopping and lunch outings with her late husband. She was dedicated to her family and helped care for her aging parents both at home and after they entered retirement facilities.

Mrs. Newman joined the Fayette First Baptist Church in 1955 and remained a member for life. She served as a Sunday School teacher when her children were young. Having always been one to offer encouragement and total support to her children, she was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Fred Yerby and his staff, Fayette Long Term Care staff, and Alabama Hospice staff.  The family is eternally grateful for the excellent care these individuals gave to Mrs. Newman during the final years of her life.
