L.B. Burkett Obituary

Lovie B Burkett (L.B.) was born on February 25th, 1936 in Fayette, Alabama. L.B. lived
in Fayette for most of his 90 years of life. He left this life for his Heavenly home on April
6, 2026 at Hospice of West Alabama. He left an enormous space that can never be
filled, and a laughter that cannot be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 3-P.M. from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-3 P.M. at the funeral home. Bro. Thomas Clay and Steve Grubbs will officiate.

Mr. Burkett (Dad) was preceded in death by his sons: Darrell Jay Bukett and Dennis Ray
Burkett, his parents: Lovie and Etta Mae Burkett, 9 siblings including 5 sisters:  Eula,
Irene, Dora, Lucille and Ethel, and 4 brothers: Olen, Sherman, Roy and Willie.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Gladys Hamilton Burkett,  two daughters: Teresa
(Jeff) Cowart and Mary (Bobbie) Smith; two daughters-in- law: Dana Burkett and
Elizabeth Burkett, 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

LB met Gladys, the love of his life in 1958. He said he knew she was the one, when she
stepped off a bus wearing a red dress. They married January 9, 1959 and enjoyed 67
years of shared life, which included raising 4 children, a host of grandchildren and great
grandchildren.

LB was a tile setter by trade, which he began when he was 16 years old, and provided
for his family by this trade. He was also a huge Alabama football fan, a master
gardener and considered himself a master fisherman as well. He took great joy sharing
his vegetables & fish with family & community.

LB was a party man at heart and was always ready to gather with family, friends & good
food, especially if the event was centered around him.

LB never met a stranger, at least not for long. He would strike up a conversation and
draw you into his circle of family & friends.

As we conclude, the family wants to express their deepest thanks to everyone who has
walked alongside us during this difficult time and to all that has loved him during his life
as much as we have.

To his neighbors and friends–your love, support and presence has meant more than you
will ever know. He was proud to be loved by so many and thanks to you he was always
surrounded by friends.

To the compassionate team at Hospice of West Alabama– thank you for your gentle
care and guidance that brought comfort and dignity to LB’s final days. Thank you for
your support and love shown to his family during these final days as well.

To the wonderful staff at A&E Resturant– thank you for loving him and Gladys so fully
when they lived in Fayette. The birthday party you gave LB meant the world to him. He
loved ya’ll so much that we had a hard time getting him to eat anywhere else.

To the caring congregation of Oak Grove Community Church– thank you for opening
your doors to Gladys and LB and surrounding them with love and fellowship during their
time with you. Thank you for the many prayers and calls of support during this difficult
time.

There are no words to describe our gratitude and we pray God blesses each of you.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Chase Rutledge, Caleb Robinson, Keith Burnett, Dwayne Hubbard, and staff at Hospice of West Alabama.

Active pallbearers will be: Jason Burkett, Blake Miles, Joshua Burkett, Jeffery Cowart, Will Fowler, and Matthew Fowler.
