Mr. John Henry Stewart was born January 30, 1940 to the late Frank Stewart and Annie Stewart Evans . He passed away Monday, January 20, at his residence.
Henry attended Glen Allen School til it burned later transferring to Hubbertville High School where he graduated in 1958. He worked most of his life for the Drummonds Coal Mines and retired after 27 years.
As a well known and respected man in the community, he has served as Glen Allen Fire Chief, worked with Glen Allen water board, owned and operated Stewart’s Pawn Shop, but most of all, he had a great passion for his church. He served as a faithful, dedicated member of the Glen Allen United Methodist Church for 42 years. Known to the miners as John, most knew him as Henry, though many lovingly called him “Papa”. There was never a question of his love or commitment to anyone that knew him. As a Christian, Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, and Friend, this man had a heart that was full of love.
