John Thomas Jones, Jr, also known as “Johnny” or “JT”, passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2020. He was born May 29, 1942 in Hubbertville to John Thomas “JT” and Mary Augusta Tidwell Jones.
He was a 1960 graduate of Hubbertville High School and a member of Berea Church of Christ. He married Carolyn Ann Johnston in 1961. Johnny was a retired Alabama State Trooper who served in Morgan, Etowah, and Madison counties before returning to his home of Fayette County to serve the majority of his career. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and selling produce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Jones and Augusta Kimbrell; stepfather George Washington Mayfield; brother George Donny Mayfield; and grandson Cody Michael Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann Johnston Jones; two sons, Joel Scott Jones (Rebecca) of Providence, AL and Kevin Michael Jones (Cathy) of Fayette; three grandchildren, Dianna Lynn Jones, Samantha Jones Allen (Austin), Kaitlyn Carlene Jones; four great grandchildren, Courtney, Brianna, and Blake Marchman and Easton Allen; brother Mark Allen Mayfield of Winfield; sister Diana Gail Mayfield Gray (William Earl) of Hubbertville; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be graveside June 24, 2020 at 5:00pm, officiated by Reverend Elvis Cochran, with burial at Sand Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Hubbertville.
