Jerry L. Olive, age 74, of Fayette passed away Monday, August 23 at UAB Hospital. He was a 1965 graduate of Berry High School and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Livingston University (now the University of West Alabama). He began his teaching career in Sumter County and held several roles from classroom teacher to administrator with the Fayette County Board of Education from 1972 until his retirement in 2006. He was an elder at the Fayette Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Bessie Olive and his brothers Wayne, Ray, and Ralph Olive.
He is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 53 years; daughter Terri Olive Tompkins (Matt) of Tuscaloosa; son Jesse Olive (Amanda) of Fairhope; and grandchildren Sara Quinn Tompkins of Tuscaloosa and Luke Emory Olive of Fairhope as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a family memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Fayette Church of Christ, P.O. Box 40, Fayette, Alabama 35555 or to the Fayette Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Drawer 710, Fayette, Alabama 35555.
