James Smith Obituary

Mr. James Smith, age 80 of Fayette, passed away peacefully at his residence February 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at 2-P.M. from Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 1-2 P.M. at the funeral home. Rev. Brannon Pinion and Rev. Brady Wright will officiate.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Frances Johnson Smith of Fayette, daughters, Teresa Smith of Fayette, and Lisa Smith Long (Byron) of Fayette, son, Mike Smith (Tina) of Hartselle, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Born August 13, 1937, James was the youngest of twelve children and the last surviving child of William "Bill" Robert Smith and Viloa Watkins Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, eleven siblings and one great-grandson. James was very hardworking man dedicated to any task he undertook with an extraordinary love for God, Family, Friends, and Country. He served many honorable years as a fireman at #4 fire station in Tuscaloosa and also a top seller for Pepsi Cola bottling company before starting a successful home building business in Fayette, Al. with his life long friend and business partner David Patterson. They formed Smith and Patterson Homebuilders and Sipsey Building Supply where they proudly served Fayette and surrounding counties.

Pallbearers will be, Gordon Smith, Preston Smith, Jarod Long, Nick Williford, Scott Freeman, and Russell Olive.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their support in his final days. Also a special thank you for the love and devotion from his caregiver, Jean Case.
