Mrs. Helen Lister, age 71 of Bankston, passed away June 15, 2025.
Helen Lister, a beloved wife, momma, Nana, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and adventure. Born on March 2, 1954, in Alabama, she grew up surrounded by family and nature, a foundation that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became.
A mother of two and Nana to five, she was the heart of her family—steadfast, patient, and endlessly kind. As a sister to five siblings and the devoted wife of her lifelong love, William Lister, she built a life rooted in hard work and unwavering love. Though she never sought wealth, her life was rich with joy, laughter, and an indomitable spirit.
Her passion for adventure was boundless. With William (Dub) by her side, she traveled across the country. They explored the Grand Canyon, the coasts of both oceans, majestic mountains, serene valleys, countless lakes, hidden waterfalls, and lush forests. She embraced the open road with a fearless heart, often turning left simply to see where the journey would take them. Living by her own wise words: “You can’t get lost if you don’t know where you’re going.”
Her deep love of God was the guiding light of her life. She carried a spirit of grace and patience, never judging and always forgiving. She found joy in the simple wonders of the world—hummingbirds fluttering near her garden, the vibrant blooms she so tenderly nurtured, and the peaceful koi fish in her pond. Her bright sense of humor could light any room, finding laughter even in the smallest moments.
Helen Lister was a woman of strength, beauty, and immense warmth. She taught those around her the true meaning of love and faith through her actions and spirit. She will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and let us all live with the sense of adventure, bravery and whimsy.
