Mr. Gregory Brent, age 74 of Fayette, passed away November 13, 2023 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 3-P.M. from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-3 P.M. at the funeral home.
The afternoon of November 13, 2023, the Lord sent an angel from heaven to deliver Gregory “Greg” Brent a message, “ Your job on earth is complete; and your pain is over, you’ve done your best, come home and be at rest.”
Greg Brent was born on October 22, 1949 to the late Gather Brent and the late Lillie Hanes in Cook County, Illinois. He accepted Christ at an early age when he moved to Fayette united with Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He attended West Highland High School where he later transferred to Fayette County High School, where he graduated. He worked at Arvin for over 30 years before it closed and then he went to work with the City of Fayette for 11.5 years where he later retired from, then spent his remaining years as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Greg leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Quentin Brent of Fayette, two daughters: Shalethia Brent of Fayette and ReKethia Brent of Fayette, seven grandchildren: Cory (Brooke) Driver of Fayette, Quenterria Brent of Fayette, Bri Brent of Birmingham, AL, Keiontae Brent of Savannah, GA, Ja’Camion Young of Fayette, and Aspen Savage of Fayette, two brothers: James (Kris) Brent of Chicago, IL and Craig Brent of Detroit, MI, two sisters: Cheryl Jones of Fayette and Faye (David) Cannon of Fayette, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews and special friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Gather Brent and Lillie Hanes, a loving wife: Veronica “ Bonnie” Brent, his sister: Cynthia Walker, his sister: Harriet Brent, two nieces: Monica Cannon and Sharon Walker, and one nephew: Dennis “Jabo” Wilson.
