Gene Fulmer Obituary

Mr. Roy Gene Fulmer, lovingly known to many as “Swifty Man”, was a devoted Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A resident of Fayette, Alabama, he passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by those he loved most. Gene was born on October 11, 1938 in Fayette, Alabama to Thomas Leonard Fulmer and Ella Potts Fulmer.
Gene leaves behind a legacy of faith, joy, and love that will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. A proud Christian man and longtime member of Southside Baptist Church, he served faithfully as a deacon and set the example of what it truly means to walk with the Lord. His faith was not only something he spoke about often but something he lived every single day.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera Roena Fulmer, his parents, Thomas Leonard Fulmer and Ella Potts Fulmer, his brothers, Mack Fulmer, Paul Fulmer, Robert  Fulmer, Guy Fulmer, and Carl Fulmer.
He is survived by his children, Stephen Gene Fulmer (Laura) and Deidra Fulmer Ladnier (William), and his beloved grandchildren, Gene Fulmer (Evan Ashley), Brooke Robertson (Landon), Jacob Fulmer, Brittney Butler, and Breann Butler (Draven).
Gene deeply loved his family. Whether cheering on his loved ones at life’s milestones, sharing stories at family gatherings, or offering words of wisdom, he was a steady source of strength, encouragement, and love. The words in Matthew 5:16 embody the faith that guided his life: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.”
Gene found joy in the simple things - laughing with his family, sharing a cup of coffee with friends, and watching Alabama sports, always quick to say, “Roll Tide.” His joyful spirit brightened the lives of all who knew him. On his 80th birthday, he celebrated with a wish for 80 more years- a reflection of how grateful he was for every day he was given.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Nelson Funeral Home, officiated by Mark Brown and Bro. Robert Parrish.  The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 pm with the funeral to follow at 3:00 pm. There will be no graveside service.
Pallbearers to be Tim Fulmer, Larry Humber, Eddie Fulmer, Jeff Fulmer, Rickey Ary, and Mark Fulmer.
Honorary pallbearers are his nephews Jerrod Brown, Dwayne Brown, Tony Brown, Tom Fulmer, David Fulmer, Johnny Fulmer, Robert Fulmer, Joe Fulmer, Warren Burns, Lance Ayres, Allen Burns, Ethan Couch, Dennis McKinley as well as small group church class friends John Gary, Wayne Gilliam, and Curt Rainey.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Morningview Estates and Fayette Medical Center Long Term Care for their compassion and care during Gene’s time of need.
Though Gene’s presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. We rejoice in knowing he is reunited with Roena and resting in the presence of his Savior. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Southside Baptist Church in memory of him.
