Gayle Jemison Baker

Mrs. Gayle Baker, age 92 of Fayette, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Morningview Estates. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 11-A.M. from Caines Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Nelson Funeral Home. 

She was preceded in death by her parents: Russell H. and Carlene Jemison. 

Survivors include her husband of 60 years: Bobby Baker of Fayette, two daughters: Frances Baker Swanger and Leigh Ann Baker Williams (Manning) both of Northport, one sister: Joan Barnes of Fayette, four grandchildren: Brandon Swanger (Caylee) and Kayla Linley (Hayden) both of Fayette, Mason Williams and Sarah Williams both of Tuscaloosa, and two great-grandchildren: Slade Swanger and Jace Baker Linley. 

Mrs. Baker was a lifelong resident of Fayette. She graduated Fayette County High School in 1952. Gayle was employed by Citizens Bank of Fayette for over 30 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Gayle enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a lifelong member of Caines Ridge Baptist Church. 

Honorary pallbearers are: Dr. Martha Jo Christian, Dr. Fred Yerby and staff, and employees of Fayette Medical Center. 

Active pallbearers will be: Tim Bobo, Brandon Swanger, Mason Williams, Hayden Linley, Manning Williams, and Chris Cannon. 

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers in her final years, Dorothy Sudduth, Mary Humphries, Mackenzie Taylor, staff and employees of Morningview Estates, and Hospice of West Alabama.
