Ms. Felicia Denise Hughes, 53, of Fayette, Alabama, gained her heavenly wings on September 7, 2025. She was born on December 31, 1971, the third child of the late Roberta Stowe Hughes Pruitt and Chester Hughes, who both preceded her in death; and by an infant child whom she now joins in eternal rest.
Felicia confessed Christ at an early age at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J.B. Vincent. In her later years, she worshiped at Temple Star and Mt. Joy, under the leadership of her cousin, Pastor Kelcey Hale, until her health failed.
She was educated in the Fayette school system, attending Fayette Elementary School and Fayette County High School. Throughout her life, Felicia worked at several local businesses including Pizza Hut, Jack’s, Hardee’s, McDonald’s, Fayette Medical Center, Lisa’s BBQ, and finally Showa, where she worked faithfully until her health declined in December 2018.
Felicia was known as the comedian of both her family and her community. With her quick wit, radiant smile, and infectious laughter, she could light up any room. Her gift of humor brought joy to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to bring smiles to those she loved.
Above all, Felicia was a devoted mother. Her beloved daughter, Chesyca Johnson, was her pride, her joy, and the love of her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter Chesyca Johnson; her devoted sister and caretaker Anita Hughes-Wilson; her “Irish twins,” Stephanie Hughes (James Enis) and Tracy Hughes; her nieces and nephews Aliska Hughes-Monroe (Christopher Monroe), Synamon Hughes, Shanice White (Preston White), Khiry Hughes, Stefon Hughes, and Trayon Johnson; her great-nieces and great-nephews Patience and Mercy Monroe, LaNyah Richardson, Marleigh Harris, Kors Driver, and Talvis R. Franklin.
She also leaves to mourn her passing: loving aunts Joicylene Lark, Shirley Young, Gwendolyn Nalls, and Lena Hughes (Mike Hill); uncles Terry Hale Sr. and Ivory Hale; caring stepfather Jimmie Pruitt; a very special cousin Marilyn Nalls, and a host of other close cousins and friends.
Felicia’s life was a beautiful reminder that even in difficult times, laughter can heal, love can carry us through, and faith can anchor us. Though she is gone from our sight, her joy, her love, and her laughter will live forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
