Dorothy Nell Lowery

Mrs. Dorothy Nell Lowery, age 87 of Bankston, passed away August 31, 2024 at Fayette Medical Center Long Term Care.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 11-A.M. from New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Bro. Adam Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10-11 A.M. at the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Jesse and Donia Sands, son-in-law: Jimmy Feltman, brothers: Lewis Sands, Luther Sands, Fred Sands, and sister: Melba Kuykendall.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years: Marshall Lowery, son: Marty Lowery (Jo), daughter: Jeannie Feltman, grandsons: Jeremy Lowery (Lane) and Kyle Lowery (Alicia), great-grandchildren: Kristen Sexton (Will), Banks Lowery, and Jax Lowery, brother: Ted Sands (Beverly), sister: Ruthie Feltman (Melvin), and a host of nieces and nephews.

Nell was a 1955 graduate of Berry High School, the first in her family to graduate. She and Marshall married February 19, 1954 while still in high school. She worked at Sterilon and local garment factories and later stayed at home and babysat children. She was an active member of New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church as long as she was able to go. She enjoyed her family and reading, traits she passed to both of her children.

Pallbearers will be: Jeremy Lowery, Kyle Lowery, Charles Odom, Colby Odom, Timmy Lowery, and James "Chopper" Sands.
