Dennis Smith

Dennis Charles Smith, of Fayette, AL, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL.  

Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Nelson Funeral Home in Fayette, AL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home with Ray Aldridge and Buddy Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS. 

Dennis was born on November 12, 1953, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Charlie Dempsey Smith and Bonnie Jean Belk. He retired from the Columbus Air Force Base Commissary, and he attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Palmetto, AL.  

Dennis loved sports, especially watching the Alabama Crimson Tide play football and the Atlanta Braves play baseball. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors in nature. He liked to ride motorcycles and had many adventures traveling with his family. Dennis also loved his dog Bentley and cats Buster and Maverick. 

Dennis is survived by his wife, Susanne Hughes Smith; several cousins; in-laws, Buddy (Jan) Hughes, Jennifer Hughes (Dave) Scott, Patsy Hughes; and many friends. 

Pallbearers will be Buddy Hughes, Dave Scott, Eddie Patchen, Ashley Patchen, Aaron Aldridge, and Mike Hildreth. 

A special thanks to doctors and nurses at Druid City Hospital, MICU # 1, for their compassionate care of Dennis.
