David Lynn Stovall, 70, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. Kathy, his wife of 50 years, was by his side at the time of his death.
David was born in October of 1952 to Eldon and Helen Stovall at Tyndall Air Force Base just south of Panama City, Florida. He was the fourth of six children born to the couple. As a child, David lived on Air Force bases in Florida, Japan, and then Missouri with a short stay at the family homestead in Fayette County before the family left for Japan. As a boy, David enjoyed countless adventures with his brothers, Mike, John, and Art and his sisters, Sharon and Debbie. When his father, Eldon, retired from the military he moved back to the family homestead in Fayette County. David attended Hubbertville School and there met Kathy, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life.
David and Kathy were married on May 26th, 1972, and began their lives together. They had their first child, Diana, in October of 1973. They had their first son, Billy, in December of 1975 and their last child and youngest son, Josh, in September of 1978. They raised their family and lived in the same home for over 47 years. During this time David could be found at softball and football fields and basketball courts across the state supporting his daughter and sons in everything they did at Hubbertville School. All players knew David as the ultimate encourager. Later, David added to his family welcoming two daughter-in-laws, Karla and Kristy, and one son-in-law, Dave. He later welcomed his five grandsons: Nick, Austin, Andrew, Carter, and Dawson.
David was a proud and accomplished coal miner for 40 years before he retired in 2014. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and supporting all of his grandsons activities. David once again could be found at baseball fields, football fields, track meets, basketball courts and cross country events on a regular basis. This time encouraging and cheering for his grandsons and their teammates.
In his last days, David was surrounded by all of the people who loved and cherished him. He passed directly from their loving arms into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.
