Charles McGahey Obituary

Mr. Charles B. McGahey, Jr.  age 97 of Fayette, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. McGahey was born December 29, 1925 in Eldridge, AL to C.B. McGahey, Sr. and Blanche Ella McGahey.

He graduated from Walker Co. High School in Jasper, AL. The week following graduation, Charles enlisted into the Navy to serve his country during WWII. H e served on the Aircraft Carrier "Bon Homme Richard" for over 2-1/2 years - traveling from Seattle, Washington, through the Panara Canel, to South America, and Japan.

After WWII ended, Charles and June were married in Jasper, AL.

Charles graduated from the University of Alabama with a BA Degree in Business, using the GI Bill of Rights.

After college graduation, Charles and June moved to Memphis, TN where Charles worked for Liberty National Life Insurance.

Their 1st daughter, Genella, was born in 1949. Their 2nd daughter, Judy, was born in 1952.

Charles and June with their two girls moved to Fayette in 1955.

Charles was still working for Liberty National. In 1963 Charles along with two business partners bought the Ford Dealership, and he was the Ford Dealer in Fayette for 31 years.

Charles was a longtime member of the Fayette Exchange Club and an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fayette.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and by his dear wife, June, whom he was married to for 75 years.

Charles is survived by his two daughters: Genella (Doaks) Oswalt of Fayette, AL, and Judy (Jewell) Deer of McComb, MS, grandchildren: Louis (Melanie) Oswalt, Amy (Grady) DeLoach, Jonathan (Teresa) Howell, Matthew Howell, and David Howell, great-grandchildren: Casey (Kali) DeLoach, Cody DeLoach, Katie Oswalt,  Lizzie Oswalt, Carter Howell, Tristan Howell, and Emory Rose Howell, great-great-granddaughter: Arya DeLoach, a brother: Robert Earl (Kathy) McGahey of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and a niece: Jeannette (Jerry) Taylor of Springville, AL.

The family will hold a private service.
