Charles Humber Obituary

Today, we gather to honor the life of Charles Bailey Humber—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, neighbor, and friend. Though we grieve his passing, we celebrate a life defined by faith, service, strength, and love. Charles was born on March 29, 1943, in Fayette, Alabama. He attended Kirkland Elementary School and graduated from Fayette High School in 1961, where values of hard work, loyalty, and community took root. He passed peacefully on April 19, 2026, at Forest Manor Health and Rehab in Northport, Alabama. We give thanks for a life well lived, lessons quietly taught, and love generously given.

A proud United States Army veteran, Charles served during the Vietnam War as a long‑distance sniper and rifleman. He approached his service with courage and discipline. While he spoke little of his experiences, his sacrifice was evident. Charles was deeply patriotic and proudly vocal in his unwavering support of the military and those who served. At the heart of his life was his enduring love for Quilla Morrison Humber, his wife of 58 years, who preceded him in death by eight months to the exact day. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, family, and devotion. As dedicated members of Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, they lived their faith through service, kindness, and fellowship. His love for Quilla remained evident in his words, memories, and devotion to family.

Charles was a pillar in Lamar and Fayette counties and later a trusted presence in the Lakeview Manor neighborhood of Northport. Whether lending a hand, offering advice, sharing home‑grown vegetables, or stopping to talk, he connected with others through humor and storytelling. For many years, Charles worked at the GM Delphi Harrison Plant in Tuscaloosa, earning respect for his work ethic and dependability. Retirement allowed him to enjoy what he loved most—hunting, fishing, and gardening. He took great pride in his garden, often planting more than needed so he could share with family, friends, and neighbors. Generosity came naturally to him. Charles was a devoted Alabama Crimson Tide fan, especially football and basketball, and enjoyed years in a recreational softball league where camaraderie mattered as much as winning. Known by many as the “Crappie King” on Lake Tuscaloosa, fishing was where he found peace and contentment.

His greatest legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his sons and daughters‑in‑law—Tracy and Kristy Humber, Scott and Barbara Humber, and Kenny and Jennifer Humber; grandchildren—Trent Humber (Lauren), Parker Humber (Katie), Christie Graham, Ashley Bigham (Tyler), Maci Humber, and Dexx Humber; and great‑grandchildren—Rain Nolan, Trace Graham, Henley Graham, Sayge Trimm, Halyn Bigham, and Saydi Bigham.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Rayburn and Inez Perkins Humber; brothers, Johnny and Albert Humber; sister, Helen Humber Nichols; and his beloved wife, Quilla Morrison Humber. We take comfort knowing their reunion is one of peace and joy.

May we honor Charles’s memory by living with the same humility, integrity, humor, and heart that defined his life.
