Billy Kennedy

Mr. Billy Kennedy, age 80 of Fayette, passed away November 6, 2023 at Fayette Long Term Care.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at 12-noon from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends Monday from 11-A.M. till 12-noon at the funeral home.

Mr. Billy Kennedy departed this life on November 5, 2023. He was born in Fayette, Alabama on November 13, 1942 to the late Marvin Kennedy and Corene Henry. Billy graduated from Fayette County Training School. After finishing school, he started a family and moved to New York City where he lived much of his adult life before returning to Fayette.

Billy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Fayette, Alabama from his birth. He enjoyed singing and serving as an usher and he accepted Christ in his later years. He worked on several jobs in Fayette, Alabama including the Fayette Funeral Home.

Growing up in the small town of Fayette, he was the living example of someone who “never met a stranger”. Billy would engage in conversation with whoever he came in contact with, no matter where it was. After only one visit to his brother’s church in Rochester, NY he made such an impression that many who had the opportunity to meet him would often inquire about how he was doing. He will be long remembered for his contagious sense of humor. You were sure to experience a good laugh when in his presence. He was an unforgettable personality.

Billy is survived by his brother, Bishop James R. Wright Sr. (Rochester, NY); Sons, Billy G. Kennedy (Fayette, AL) and Scottye Kennedy (NYC) and one daughter, Patricia Stoney-Whitson (Fayette, AL). He also leaves to cherish his memory five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one niece and two nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
