Bill Sims Obituary

Bill Sims, age 82, a long-time resident of Fayette, AL left this world peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children. Bill was born on August 18, 1940 to the late A.C. and Annie Ruth Sims in Sikeston, Missouri.

Bill went to Berry High School and worked in various fields as a young man. He retired from Chevron Coal Mines in 2002, where over the 30 plus years he made many lifelong friends. In his free time Bill enjoyed hunting, riding horses, and watching the Crimson Tide! To Bill everything was made more special when it was enjoyed with family and friends. Bill loved to watch old westerns, Mountain Man, and Cowboy Way and he was all smiles when “Bubba” called to wish him a Happy Birthday.  BIll always had a good story to tell about the good ole days and could capture the attention in a crowd with a joke that was sure to make you laugh.

Everyone that knew Bill knew he had a big heart and was a loyal family man. He will be missed by his loving wife, Willie Mae of 56 years, his three adoring children, and his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed exploring new places and vacationing with his family in the Great Smoky Mountains. Bill gave his heart to God as a young father when the Lord moved on his heart while at work. He immediately walked out mid shift and came to church to join his family. He surrendered his life to Jesus that day and never worked another Sunday.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Bickerton and grandchildren, Kaleb Owens and Mia Rose Sims.

He leaves behind his wife, Willie Mae Sims, son, Chad Sims (Amber) and daughters, Dana Owens (Randall) and Susan Ingle (Rodney) as well as three granddaughters, Haleigh Stidham (Gabe), Kinley Owens, Emma Kate Sims and two grandsons, Zack Ingle and Alex Sims, two sisters, Nell Cain and Laura Bowles (Glenn).

Services will be held for Bill on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 4:00 pm at Nelson Funeral Home. Mark Brown and Darryl Ballew will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-4 P.M. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chad Sims, Alex Sims, Rodney Ingle, Randall Owens, Zack Ingle, and Gabe Stidham.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Hal Cain, John Cain, Randall Bowles, Mike Butts, Mark Moore, Kevin Moore, and Jimmy Bickerton. The family would like to thank all of our family, friends, and the nurses of West Alabama Hospice for their love, support, and prayers.
