Billy Lynn Baker, age 88, passed away at home on Nov. 8, 2024.
Services will be held at Shepherd Baptist Church in Fayette on Sunday November 10th at 3PM with visitation from 2-3. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Dr. David Stidham and Bro. Corey Baker will officiate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert M. Baker and Lila Bay Clements Baker and brother, Jerry Wayne Baker.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Helen Wright Baker, sons David Lynn Baker (Pam) of Fayette and William Mark Baker (Jill) of Wetumpka, grandchildren; Cortney Lynn Nabors (Ernie), Corey Joe Baker (Bailey) Ella Kate Baker and Mary Ellis Baker, great-grandchildren; Carter Reed Baker, Harper Rae Baker, Brayden Baker, Lizzy Nabors and Aleigha Nabors, brother, Bob Baker (Gayle), sisters, Betty Belue (Bobby, dec.) and Shirley Glover (Jerre), several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-laws, Sally Baker and Barbara Wright.
Bill was born on February 19,1936 in Fayette County. He retired from GTE Telephone Co. in 1998 with 35 years of service. He proudly served in the United States Army in 1959-1960 and again in 1961 during the Cuban Crisis.
After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping. Pickensville was his favorite place to camp. Most of all he loved spending time with family and church family. Bill was a faithful member of Shepherd Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. In his younger days he also served as song director.
The Pallbearers will be Corey Baker, Ernie Nabors, Brayden Baker, Tim Bobo, Wayne Cotton and Larry Wright.
