Bessie Walton Ham

Bessie Dean Walton Ham passed away Monday, October 20, 2025 at her home in Fayette, Alabama.

She was born on June 29, 19336 in Walker County, Alabama to Lucious and Floy Walton. The family moved to Fayette County when she was 5 years old. Bessie had 11 siblings. 

Bessie married Thomas Hershel Ham on July 21, 1956 and they had 3 sons: Carl Thomas (Sally), Timothy William (Debbie) and Joel Michael (Michelle).

She was a stay at home mother most of her 61 years of marriage., helping Hershel farm in Fayette County. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking for her family and watching TV sports.

Bessie was proceeded in death by her husband: Thomas Hershel Ham, parents: Lucious and Floy Walton, siblings: Alvin, Earl, Howard, Raymond "Buddy", James, Barney Walton, Margaret "Sister" McDonald, Sarah Frances Price, Nell Shelton, and granddaughter: Amy Ham.

Survivors include her sons: Carl (Sally), Tim (Debbie), and Joel (Michelle), sister: Billie Ann Walton, brother: Ben Walton (Gerane), grandchildren: Deidra Long (John), Jennifer McComb, Joshua Ham (Chasity), William Ham (Brooke) and Amanda Smith, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 1-P.M. from Fayette First Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens. Bro. Adrain Nottonson and Bro. Scott Montgomery will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12-1 P.M. at the church.

Pallbearers will be: Joshua and Hunter Ham, William and Kaden Ham, John, Thomas and Hudson Long, and Hugh McComb.
