Arlene Black Humber, age 96 of Fayette, AL, went home to be with her Lord and her beloved husband on May 2, 2023. She was born on June 4, 1926, the oldest daughter of Ellis and Cora (Bynum) Black. On January 26, 1946, she married the love of her life, Thomas Lloyd Humber, after he was blessed to return from WWII. They were married almost 70 years and had five children, ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Humber was a true home maker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and wise teacher to her family. She also was a talented seamstress, quilter, gardener, and cook. She loved her family, friends, church and Lord, and no one could ask for a better mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt or friend. Words cannot describe the loss her family feels at her passing but the love and memories that remain will forever be treasured.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home at 3659 Highway 171 N. Fayette, Alabama, with visitation at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Humber will be buried at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she was a member for over 60 years. Brother Lee Roy Dutton, Pastor at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, will be officiating the funeral service.
Survivors include her children, Angela Humber Fulmer (Lenny), Jerry Humber (Linda), Terry Humber (Manda), Elizabeth Humber Loh (Ken), and Janice Humber Parker (Tom); grandchildren, Tom Fulmer (Amy), David Fulmer, Lindsey Arlene Fulmer Pearson (Colter), Katie Humber Turner (Wyman), Michael Humber (Katheryn), Meredith Humber Fitzpatrick (Trey), Melissa Humber Yan (Shaun), Heather Loh, and Kenneth Loh (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Tyler Loh, Shannon and Avery Fitzpatrick, Elizabeth and Abbey Turner, Colt and Emery Pearson, Benjamin, Juliette and Liam Loh, Kate and James Humber, and Delun, Tai and Sloane Yan; step-grandchildren, Janine Loh (Brian Leader) and Dawn Loh-Perez (Manny) and their families; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Mrs. Humber was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; her sister, Lula Black Burns; her brothers, Grady, Theron, Roy, Orville, and Robert Black; and her grandson, Matthew Humber.
Pallbearers will be Garry Thomas, Andrew Bynum, Steve Butler, Larry Humber, Richard Black and Robert Humber.
A special thanks from Mrs. Humber’s family to Kenda Thomas and her family, her caregivers - Janice Smith and Angie Smith, and the Hospice Staff of West Alabama, whose loving service allowed Mrs. Humber to stay in her home with the best of care. Thank you also to the many family and friends who visited, prayed and kept her encouraged.
