Morris Perry Obituary

The service for Mrs. Morris Anne Hyde Perry, age 77, of Fayette, Alabama will be held on Saturday May 25, 2019, at Fayette First Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 12:30 pm.

     Mrs. Perry passed away at DCH in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Tuesday May 21, 2019. She was surrounded by family throughout her time at the hospital. She was born September 14, 1941 in Fayette, Alabama. She graduated from Fayette County High School in 1959. Her college studies started at Florence State Teachers College (UNA), and she continued until she graduated from Mississippi

University for Women (MUW) in 1963 with a Bachelors’ in Education. She spent the remaining years working at a variety of jobs from Social Worker at DHR (Department of Human Resources) to educator as a history and elementary teacher to small business woman in her hometown. She raised three children and has three grandchildren.

     Morris Anne was an active member at Fayette First Baptist Church her entire life. She was a committed member and leader of WMU (Women’s Missionary Union) at Fayette First Baptist Church as well as member of the Lucky 13 Supper Club for 54 years, Fayette Art Museum Board of Directors, Music Study Club, secretary of the City of Fayette Historical Preservation Commission Board,  member of the Fayette County Historical society, Progress Club Inc., Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Colonial Dames, FFBC Grimsley Circle, various Bridge Clubs, chairperson of FFBC historical committee and FFBC WMU Director. Morris Anne was also a strong advocate for missions throughout her whole life. From volunteering with Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoebox Ministry to supporting church and family members going on various mission trips.  She did what she could to help spread God’s Word.

     Everyone who knew Morris Anne knew she had a passion for history – the history of her family, church, and hometown. She was more than willing to share any of the stories she had collected over the years. She also went out of her way to preserve as much of history as she could get her hands on.

    Morris Anne Perry was an extremely passionate woman. She loved her church, her family, and her God with all her mind, heart, and strength. All who were loved by her knew she would move heaven and earth for them. There are only a few people in the community of Fayette, Alabama who can say they have not been touched by Morris Anne Perry. With her big heart, came a strong personality that will forever be missed.

    Morris Anne Perry is survived by her husband, Brannen Perry; her children, Brann Perry (Leslie Campbell), Anne Perry Uhlman, and Abbie Perry Wilbourne (Wil); her brother, Dr. Fletcher “Sonny” Hyde; and her grandchildren, Brannen Uhlman, Bo Uhlman, and Perry Wilbourne.

     Morris Anne is preceded in death by her mother, Mae Jewel Hocutt Hyde; and her father, Charles Morris Hyde.
