Mr. Fredrick Smith, age 87 of Fayette, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Fayette Long Term Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2-P.M. from Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state Saturday from 1-2 P.M. at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Murl Glover and Manie Lou "Kate" Pugh Smith, son: Jack Barry Smith, daughter: Carol Smith, and brother-in-law: Wilson Williams.
Survivors include his wife: Delois "Sally" Shaw Smith, sons: Patrick Gerald Smith (Harriette), Myron G. Smith, and Jack Alexander Smith, brothers: Donald M. Smith (Sandra-Kay "Sandy"), Ralph Smith (Virginia), Gary Michael "Mike" Smith, and sister: Barbara Williams.
Fred was a graduate of Palmetto High School. He married Sally Shaw on September 4, 1955. Fred worked for Bryce Hospital, Gulf States Paper, and retired from Arvin-Meritor in 1995. He was the founder of Alabama Sunshine Hot Sauce Company. Fred had a heart of gold and was always giving. He worked with the United Cerebral Palsy of West Alabama, Apple Annie fundraiser, the ARC of Fayette County, and Boy Scouts of America (Black Warrior Council) among others. Fred was an active member and deacon at Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers are: James Cargile, Gene Fulmer, John Gary, Scotty Hardin, Rev. Ray Johnson, Mark Patton, Fred Rogers, and Kevin Stripling.
Active pallbearers will be: Caleb Hall, Kenny Kelly, Josh Kizzire, Keith Kizzire, Deron Lacey, and Jack Alexander Smith.
